Based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Prix du Premier Roman Étranger award-winning author Gwen Edelman. Edelman adapted her book for the stage following its success in Europe, and has been workshopping it in NYC for several years.
The most recent reading took place on December 11, 2019 and featured Megan Reilly O’Neill as ‘Lilka’ and Austin Skye-Parker as ‘Jascha’. It was overseen and directed by French actor Mikaël Mittelstadt (Ici Tout Commence, A Solitude est un Cercueil De Verre) and award-winning director David Schweizer (Drama Desk Award nominee, OBIE Award Winner).
“Train to Warsaw” is an intoxicating story about desire and the true cost of survival. Jascha and Lilka, lovers who met within a ghetto during the height of World War II, are forced to confront their past when they are tasked with returning to their homeland years after the war. Will their homecoming bring them closer together, or will the ghosts that have haunted them for so long finally succeed in tearing them apart? It is a haunting and unforgettable tale that forces the reader to consider the question, “Can one ever truly forget what fear is?”
